The new season is here under new open age coaches Danny Fearon a former Halifax RLFC player and Lee Brooke a former Pennine League Player of the Year.
This season we also welcome a whole new team at Under 13 which is coached by Jason MacDonald. Jason brings a very successful team which includes several players who were at the club a few years ago and we wish them well for the coming season.
King Cross Park RLFC is an amalgamation of King Cross Junior ARLFC and Park Amateurs open age side. King Cross was formed by, amongst others, some of the Halifax RLFC players in 1986 to provide rugby league for local children. The club has gone from strength to strength and is recognised with the rugby league hierarchy as one of the leading clubs in the West Riding. The club boasts many past players who have signed professional contracts including Andy Hobson, Andrew Brocklehurst, Scott and Simon Grix, Jode and Rikki Sheriff, Danny Jones, Danny Ekis and Liam Finn.
Park Amateurs, formally know as St Mary's are a club that has been around for over sixty years having been established in the early forties. The club was disbanded during the Second World War but reformed in 1963 and changed its name to Park Amateurs in 1976.
Many years ago some Park Amateurs club members helped the club by donating monies to the club and forming the 100 club. A separate account was set up, as a financial fall back if and when it was required. Thankfully the money was not required and has been growing with interest ever since. At the AGM members voted that the money should be given to the new club and in recognition of their support the 100 club members were made Life members of King Cross Park RLFC. A special thanks from everyone at King Cross Park RLFC to all the 100 club members who are...... Chris Broadbent, John Broadbent, Harry Broadbent, Joe Dunne, David Cockroft, Bernard Finnell, Janice Finnell, David Finnell, Stuart Hainsworth, Graham Hellowell, Neville Hoyle, Gary Lister, Dave Martin, Michael Martin, Alan Sheard.
Both clubs are based at the Old Crossleyans, Broomfield Avenue Savile Park and have maintained strong links over the last 4 years. The merge will benefit both clubs and provide continuity of rugby through to open age. The club has short and long term goals for the future to include an aim for National Conference rugby being one of those goals.
Thanks to the hospitality of the Old Crossleyans the club can boast one of the very best facilities in the league. The junior section will run teams from Under 8's to Under 18's and the senior section will run two open age sides in the Pennine League. The future is bright with recruitment for the forthcoming season going well and some promising youngsters coming through.
